PAGO PAGO, American Samoa — Gov. Togiola Tulafono cannot bar Hawaiian Airlines from brief its Honolulu-Pago Pago itinerary because the escapes are enclosed by national regulations, according to a official attitude.
The attitude printed by area lawyer Jeff Waller was demanded and made known by the U.S. territory's committee. Tulafono issued an executive order exigencying Hawaiian's withdrawal in advance of another airline final week.
"The committee is nervous about this form of action full against a dealings working in the territory and the point it mails to prospect latent patrons who are contemplating the probability of liability dealings in our territory," committee leader Lolo M. Moliga said yesterday.
He indicated, however, that senators allow with Tulafono's goals of best air benefit for the territory.
The head has nitpicked that the Honolulu-based airline, which has a monopoly on the key path involving American Samoa to the U.S., overcharges and topics area residents to discrimination and ethnic harassment.
Airline spokesman Keoni Wagner has said Hawaiian approveds do not consider the director's order has any lawful authority and that the hauler would last to fly between American Samoa and Hawai'i.
The director, in a weekend radio address, asserted American Samoa reins its limits, and government praise is wanted to absolve any trips in or out of the territory. There was no instant remarks from Tulafono's agency on the attitude.
FAA spokesman Allen Kenitzer in Seattle previous told The Advertiser that only the FAA could remove an airline's permission to fly a course, and that would demand lawful formulas, with a fortune for the airline to answer.
